On 20 January 2016 Airport Olsztyn Mazury inaugurated its activities. It is the 15th international airport in Poland.
President of the Civil Aviation Authority by the decision of 18 January 2016 issued a certificate and made changes to airports registry putting Olsztyn Mazury on the list of civil airports. Olsztyn Mazury Airport has changed its status from the public for a limited certification to the airport for public use airport. Currently, the airport is classified as: international airport designed for airplanes and helicopters of the runway artificial surface with a length of 2,500 meters and a width of 45 meters with a precision approach Category I, reference code 4C, and VII of the airport fire protection category. Currently in the airspace of the airport is provided Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS).
Issuance of a certificate was preceded by the certification process, which included an assessment of the submitted documents, the approval of executive instructions, and control involving practical verification of compliance by the operator of the law in terms of technical and operational requirements. Conducted audit confirmed that the airport has properly trained staff, adequate infrastructure, equipment and procedures necessary to ensure safe flight operations.
