New acting Vice President of the Polish CAA

On October 16, 2024, the Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, entrusted Mr. Mateusz Bączkowski with the duties of Acting Vice President of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Experienced manager and lawyer. For many years associated with LOT Polish Airlines where he held a number of positions, including Director of the Legal Office, Legal and Organizational Office and President of the Management Board of LOT Travel.

From 2017 to 2023, he was Chairman and then Member of the Supervisory Board of WRO-LOT Usługi Lotniskowe.

While working at PLL LOT, he was responsible, among other things, for transactions related to the development of the national carrier, including the leasing of new aircraft. In 2017, he co-founded Polska Grupa Lotnicza. In 2018-2023, as Director of the Legal Office and Organizational Office of PGL S.A, he was responsible for, among other things, the establishment of a corporate services center and the consolidation of the Treasury aviation subsidiaries under PGL. From 2018 to 2023, he served on behalf of PLL LOT on the Star Alliance Legal Committee, and in 2022 he was elected as a member of the IATA Legal Advisory Council consisting of 20 individuals chosen from among all IATA member airlines.

In 2017, he received an honorable mention from the Legal 500, and thus was listed on the GC Powerlist among 120 individuals considered as the most influential corporate lawyers in Europe. In 2022, he was honored by the Canadian-Polish Chamber of Commerce with the Excellence Awards.

He is a Legal Advisor, a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw and the University of Oxford where he completed the Business Leader Development Programme.
